Atomic Backland 109 26/27

Atomic’s downhill-oriented FR series is built for solid control, even on demanding descents. You’ll find ascents easy enough, too: among skis around 110 mm wide, the Backland 109 is one of the lightest on market.

The very generous Powder Rocker profile pushes the limits of what still counts as a touring ski.

The FreeTour Profile gives these skis an even flex, which makes it easier to keep a good feel for the snow. The construction uses more wood and less fibreglass than usual. The tip is soft, and the tail is a touch stiffer.

If you end up on hard, groomed pistes on the Backland 109, you’ll notice you’re on a ski built mainly for soft snow. Still, for the occasional resort day, it’s perfectly enjoyable.
